Noob question – rules when there is an open second floor viewing area on the back wall.

Hi all,

Pretty basic and straight forward… the place I play at has the open (but netted) second floor viewing area on the back wall… What are the rules if you hit it and it comes all the way back and goes in that area?

Thx!

What do I do when the plastic grip on the Ektelon racquet tears away?

What do I do when the plastic grip on the Ektelon racquet tears away?

There's a plastic covering on the standard Ektelon racquets. What do you do when the plastic starts tearing away? People have told me before to "replace" the grip. What does that mean? Does that mean you take off ALL the plastic and then redo the whole grip? One time I bought some grips and it was either the do-it-yourself wrapping tape which came out terrible and was awfully slippy, or a slide-it-over condom style approach which again came out terribly. I want to replace the tearing plastic with a professional job, like a new racquet is.

Also, many years ago a friend helped me buy a racquet. Before I ever played with it, he put a plastic protector over the grip. Then when the protector decayed away after a year of playing, I took the protector off and the original racquet looked nearly brand new. Have you guys ever done this yourself or heard of others doing it?

Overall the grip thing just confuses me 🙂

A question of hinders

A question of hinders

I'm a casual player and not ever very good but I've had something come up a few times I'm curious about.

Scenario: I am standing dead center of court. Opponent is standing a few feet to to my right. The ball comes to me off the back wall and I return it so that it comes back past me on my left. It passes me about knee- to waist-high.

In this situation my opponent would have to go through me to get to the ball. He can't because I am there and can't move out of the way in the 0.1 seconds it takes for my shot to return. My opponent maybe even lunges into me trying to get to the ball. He misses and calls a hinder.

Is this a hinder? In casual games I don't mind too much and just replay but occasionally something like this happens where the opponent calls a hinder when I think my shot just was a good one for the court situation.

What do y'all do in that situation?

Coming from tennis, looking to buy a racquetball racket?

Coming from tennis, looking to buy a racquetball racket?

So had a lot of fun playing racquetball with a friend today and feel like getting a racket. I'm very familiar with the technical aspects of tennis rackets but I realized racquetball is completely different. Tried to do some research on how to figure out what I want, but ended up being pretty confused. So not sure how this will translate, but I am a younger, athletic guy that can run and hit hard/fast. My style in tennis is a fast baseliner with strong groundstrokes although I am not afraid to go to the net to finish off a point. I use probably the heaviest stock racket available in tennis called the RF97 in 4 3/8" grip size. I am also comfortable with using the 4 1/4" which are both "smaller" grip sizes in tennis. I noticed racquetball rackets are mostly in 3 5/8" size for grips. So in tennis, if a friend came to me and was like what racket would you recommend, I would be able to easily recommend a good brand and good racket at the cheapest price. I'm hoping some of you will be able to do the same. Hoping to spend no more than $50 for now if that's possible?

How does stringing work in racquetball by the way? Will my tennis stringer work for racquetball rackets?
